What are the major benefits?

There are many benefits of clear aligners over traditional orthodontic methods. Clear Aligners are:

  • Discreet – Designed to blend in with your natural smile.
  • Removable –It’s easy to brush and floss your teeth
  • Comfortable – No metal brackets or wires to irritate your mouth
  • Flexibility – With the flexibility of being removable, it’s the orthodontic solution that can work around your lifestyle
  • Eat what you want – Because you take the aligners out when you eat

Sometimes we may need to refer you to one of our trusted orthodontist partners for more complex issues.

Potential benefits of correcting misaligned teeth.

The benefits of straight teeth are not just cosmetic. Irregularly aligned teeth can lead to oral health problems, including tooth damage and chipping, tooth loss, degrading tooth enamel, difficulty chewing properly or speaking. Straightening your teeth can make a significant difference to dental problems caused by misaligned teeth.

What are Clear Aligners?

Teeth straightening methods have come a long way. Metal braces with wires are no longer your only option. Clear aligner therapy provides an almost invisible way to straighten your teeth.

Clear aligners are transparent, custom-made devices that fit perfectly over your teeth, like a discrete mouthguard. You will receive a set of aligners, each one slightly different, to gradually reposition your teeth. Each aligner is worn for approximately two weeks, adjusting your teeth progressively. At Azura, we use leading clear aligner brands Invisalign, Sure Smile and Angel Aligners.

Teeth straightening at Azura

Clear aligners are a modern orthodontic option for those seeking to address concerns such as crowding, spacing, rotated teeth, or bite alignment. At Azura Dental in Henley Beach, our practitioners assess each person’s dental structure and oral health before recommending a personalised treatment approach. Where aligners are appropriate, we begin with a digital scan of your teeth to assist in planning the movement of individual teeth over time. This scan supports the creation of a treatment plan and a sequence of custom-made aligners. The aligners are typically worn for one to two weeks at a time before progressing to the next set in the sequence. Because aligners are removable, it is important they are worn consistently as advised by your practitioner.

Treatment duration depends on a number of factors including how much movement is required, the complexity of the case, and how consistently the aligners are worn each day and night. On average, treatment can range from six months to two years. Your practitioner will provide regular reviews to assess progress, ensure that your aligners fit well, and make adjustments if needed. Our focus is to support oral health and comfort at every stage. If you are considering clear aligners, we welcome you to book a consultation to determine whether this type of orthodontic treatment is suitable for your individual dental needs.

Frequently asked questions

To assist move teeth into the right position, clear aligners are an alternative to conventional braces. Clear aligners don't have metal wires or brackets, but they employ a progressive force to control tooth movement, much like braces do. Hence the name “invisible braces”
The length of time required varies from patient to patient depending on their individual circumstances, and how often and long they are wearing their aligners for. On average most cases take no longer than 2 years and can be as little as 6 months. However, this can vary greatly depending on the complexity of your individual needs, how far they are required to move, and if you are wearing your aligners as prescribed.
The trays won't significantly affect your speech because they are so thin. For the initial few days of treatment, you might hear a small lisp. However, once you have adjusted to wearing your aligners this will resolve and usually happens in the first couple of days.
You should not consume anything other than water whilst wearing your aligners. You should always take your aligners out to eat or drink, and then rinse them and brush your teeth before putting them back in.

After you have completed your clear aligner treatment your dentist will discuss with you having either a retainer to wear at night-time, or having a wire attached to the back of your teeth. Both of these options are to retain your newly straightened teeth, and prevent them from moving. Your dentist will recommend which option is more suitable for you. After this, with good home care you should only need to come in for your preventative check-up and clean appointments.

Yes, you should never miss a scheduled dental examination. Your cleanings are actually more crucial than ever because your aligners may make you more susceptible to plaque and tartar build-up. A Dental clean is the only method that ensures nearly all harmful build-up is removed from your mouth. Your dentist also looks for any potential problems at check-up appointments so they can be addressed early. Aligner appointments are related to the orthodontic process rather than general dental care.
